St Nicholas OOSH
St Nicholas OOSH believes that children actively construct their own understandings and contribute to others’ learning, which is why play is an essential vehicle for learning. It allows them to express their personality, uniqueness, curiosity and creativity. It also enables the child to make connections between prior experiences and new learning, and stimulates a sense of wellbeing.
St Nicholas OOSH utilises play and leisure activities to provide opportunities for children to learn as they discover, create, improvise and imagine. When children play with other children they create social groups, test out ideas, challenge each other’s thinking and build new understandings. This creates a supportive environment where children can ask questions, solve problems and engage in critical thinking, which ultimately promotes positive dispositions towards learning.
Our educators provide a welcoming environment where all children and families are respected and actively encouraged to collaborate with educators about program decisions in order to ensure that experiences are engaging and meaningful. These partnerships are based on effective communication that builds the foundations of understanding about each other’s expectations and attitudes, and build on the wealth of each other’s knowledge.
